Family Services of the Mid-South
Since 1893

Historical Facts about Family Services
More than Just Another Agency

Family Services of the Mid-South has been serving Memphis and Shelby County since 1893.  It began as an agency dedicated to addressing health problems of the indigent.  From its very beginning Family Services has been a beacon of ecumenical cooperation.  Clergy from all the major religious organizations in Memphis founded it originally.  Over the years it has maintained a close relationship with many churches specially Temple Israel, as the Rabbi was one of the founders of the agency.  Rabbi Danzinger was our board chair for many years.  And, the current Associate Rabbi is now on our board.

Family Services has evolved over the years into an essential component of the matrix of social services in this community.  Below are facts about the agency presented in a bullet format for simplicity:

Family Services has two programs focused on assisting victims of crime:  First, we work with the elderly victims of crime recover from the trauma of their event as advocate for them through court, insurance claims, relocation and the like.  Second, we provide similar services to victims of domestic abuse.  We primarily work with Hispanic Women and provide group therapy at the YWCA shelter for battered women
