Donation Form
Documenting Your Contribution

Donating to Family Services of the Mid-South feels good; there is nothing more rewarding than helping a worthwhile cause.  What you need to know is that when you make a contribution, the government rewards your generosity. These rewards come in the form of a tax break. The following simple guidelines will help in claiming these deductions:

INTEMS IN RETURN DONATIONS
If your donation is in the form of purchasing a gift, service, or benefit, the IRS will presume the payment to equal the purchase price. In other words a donation of any amount requires a receipt if the organization provides goods or services to your. For example, you may make a donation of $100 to an organization and receive a $20.00 ball cap in return the amount that can be claimed as a deduction is $80. You must reject the benefit in order to deduct eh full amount

CASH DONATIONS OF $250 OR MORE
If a donation is worth $250 or more, the organization must provide a written receipt that list:
(1) Whether a good or service was provided from the charitable organization in return for the donation, and, if so, a description and estimate of the value of those goods or services
(2) A description (but no value) of any property given and the amount of any cash donated. You still need a receipt from the organization even if no goods or services are exchanged.

NEW CURRENCY RULES FOR ALL DONATIONS 2007
Checks written for less than $250 do not require a receipt. All donations of actual cash, of any amount, including $1 and $5 gifts, require a written receipt from the charitable organization.
When you give, you encourage Hope for a brighter future and  Strength to move forward to turn that Hope into a Reality
